The Sherman-Duvall House
The Sherman-DuVall House is a historic mansion and vacation rental built in 1870 but recently restored. The house contains a total of 18 rooms which have been decorated with Victorian period furniture, there is a newly refurbished kitchen and upgrades in plumbing and fixtures. The house sits on a large corner lot with a fenced back yard, exterior atrium and garage. The main house features 12’ ceilings and tall windows throughout.
The Sherman-DuVall House offers three large bedroom suites (one with
fireplace, another with its own day-kitchen, the third with a separate
playroom), plus a 4th single guest bedroom, bathroom and balcony all on
the upper level. The main floor provides a grand entryway, expansive
living room and connecting dining room with a large refurbished kitchen
to the side, a sitting parlor with fireplace, entertainment room with
fireplace, and library/study. In an older part of the back house there
is a second kitchen, bathroom, office and breakfast room opening to the
atrium. The front porch features Plantation style columns and iron
carriage posts (for horse hitching in the old days) along with a
spacious landing and swing chairs for pleasant outdoor sitting.
Houses of this grand scale, period and decor are difficult to find, yet the Sherman-DuVall House is the first in Palestine to be made available as a vacation rental for one or more families, wedding or business functions. Located in the heart of the historic district and Old Town just down the street, there are many things to do and see including local site-seeing, The Texas State Railroad, The Big Woods Hunting Resort and Davy Dogwood Park for the spring-time Dogwood Trails Festival and Parade.
